Deliverable 2 · Technology report

The management of your company asks your team one question: which enabling technologies suit us, what for, and where would we apply them? Deliverable 2 is your answer. It is the second chapter of the company's digital transformation dossier, and it builds directly on the IT/OT X-ray of Deliverable 1: you already know the company's departments, systems and plant; now you decide which upgrades of the tech tree it should unlock.

The report relates the eleven technologies of the unit to their characteristics and to their application areas in your company (criterion g). Each member writes and signs one section; the group writes the parts that make it one report.

Facts must be cited

Everything you state as a fact about a real company, a real deployment or a real product must have a source you found and cite (company website, annual or sustainability report, press, Ibestat, BOIB, the manufacturer's spec sheet). What you could not find is written as a labelled hypothesis. Invented data presented as facts is the most serious mistake in this report. How to search and cite: Writing the technology report.

What you hand in

One PDF per group, on Google Classroom, by Monday 21 December 2026 at 23:59. Between 8 and 12 pages without the cover and the list of sources.

The sections

The eleven technologies are split into four individual sections. Each member owns one, writes it and signs it with their name. With three members, section D is written by the whole group and counts as group part.

Section Criterion What to write Owner
Introduction — The company in half a page (from Deliverable 1) and three needs or problems that technology could address Group
A · Sense and connect a, b, c, e, f A technology sheet for IoT, 5G and digital twins Individual
B · Data and intelligence a, b, c, e, f A technology sheet for big data, AI and AR/VR Individual
C · Platforms and machines a, b, c, e, f A technology sheet for cloud, robotics and additive manufacturing Individual
D · Trust (4th member) a, b, c, e, f A technology sheet for cybersecurity and blockchain Individual (group with 3 members)
Summary matrix g One table: the eleven technologies × the company's areas (departments or processes), with the verdict and the main characteristic of each Group
New market d One new product or service built on the technologies, its business model, and whether it opens a new market or strengthens an existing one Group
Priorities and conclusion g Which two or three technologies first, in what order, and why; ten lines Group
Sources — Every source cited in the text, in APA style, in alphabetical order Group
Group log — Who owned which section, who had which role, what was decided and when Group

Members take a different kind of section in every deliverable, so choose one you did not have in Deliverable 1.

The technology sheet

Every technology of an individual section gets the same sheet, about two thirds of a page:

Field Content Criterion
1 · What it is Definition in your own words and three characteristics specific to this technology a
2 · A real deployment One real case, ideally in the Balearic Islands or in the company's sector: who, what, when, and the source a, g
3 · Where in our company The exact process or department; business, plant or both e
4 · Product or service What new or better product or service it would enable, and which change it is (connected product, personalisation, faster development, servitisation) b
5 · Sustainability One benefit and one cost, and what you would measure c
6 · IT / OT improvement Which environment it improves (IT, OT or the connection) and one KPI f
7 · Verdict Fits / maybe / does not fit, with the reason. "Does not fit" is a good answer when it is reasoned a, g

Roles

One role each, rotated from Deliverable 1. With three members, the Editor's job merges into the Coordinator's.

Role Job in this deliverable
Coordinator Plans the sessions, keeps the deadline, hands in the PDF
Source checker Opens every link before the hand-in; every fact has a working, reliable source; hypotheses are labelled
Technician Owns the hands-on parts: the measurements of the sessions (sensor map, coverage map, Electricity Maps, Website Carbon) are correct and dated
Editor One format, one voice, spelling, the same sheet layout for every technology

How it is assessed

Deliverable 2 is 70% of the RA2 mark; the class activities of the sessions are the other 30%.

Part Weight What is assessed
Own section (individual) 40% Your technology sheets: correctness, specificity, link to the company, sources
Defence (individual) 20% Your answers in the defence of Monday 21 December
Group part 40% Introduction, summary matrix, new market, priorities and conclusion, sources, format and spelling, group log, coherence

Rubric: own section (40%)

Criterion Excellent (9–10) Adequate (5–6) Insufficient (0–4)
Characteristics (field 1) Correct, specific to each technology, in your own words Correct but generic ("it is fast", "it is modern") Missing or wrong
Real deployment (field 2) A real, relevant case with a reliable, cited source A real case, but weak source or loosely related Missing, invented or not cited
Application to the company (fields 3, 4, 7) A concrete process or department, a credible product or service, a reasoned verdict Area named but vague; verdict without real reasons Not linked to the company
Impact (fields 5, 6) Benefit and cost; IT/OT improvement with a measurable KPI Only benefits, or improvement without a KPI Missing

Intermediate marks (7–8) sit between Excellent and Adequate.

Rubric: defence (20%)

Excellent (9–10) Adequate (5–6) Insufficient (0–4)
Explains your own sections in your own words, with details of the company and of your sources; answers the question about a teammate's section Explains the main idea but hesitates on details or sources; partial answer about the teammate's section Cannot explain what you signed

Rubric: group part (40%)

Criterion Excellent (9–10) Adequate (5–6) Insufficient (0–4)
Summary matrix (g) All eleven technologies against the company's real areas, consistent with the sheets Complete but generic, or not quite matching the sheets Missing or incomplete
New market (d) A coherent product or service, a clear business model, a reasoned market An idea without a clear model or market Missing or unrelated to the technologies
Priorities and conclusion A clear order with reasons tied to the company's needs An order without real reasons Missing
Sources and rigour Reliable, complete APA list; facts and hypotheses clearly separated Some sources incomplete or weak No sources, or invented data
Format, coherence and group log One voice, same sheet format, no spelling mistakes, complete log Some inconsistencies or mistakes; log incomplete Disordered, many mistakes, no log

Rules

Rule What it means
No AI Generative AI is not allowed in this deliverable. Unauthorised AI or plagiarism = 0
Late work Up to 48 h late: maximum 5. More than 48 h late: 0
Minimum RA2 needs at least 5
Recovery If RA2 is failed: redo one section alone, plus a defence; maximum mark 5

The defence

On Monday 21 December 2026, in class, the groups finish the report while the teacher calls each student for 2–3 minutes. No paper, no computer: a conversation. You will be asked:

Question About
1 Your own section of Deliverable 1
2 Your own section of Deliverable 2
3 A section of Deliverable 2 written by a teammate

There are no trick questions. The examples are of the kind "why did you say that technology does not fit?", "where did you find that deployment?", "what KPI would you measure?", "what does your teammate propose for the cloud?". If you wrote your section yourself and read your teammates' sections, you are ready. If you are absent with a justified reason, your defence is moved to another day.

Final checklist

The summary matrix has the eleven technologies and matches the sheets
The new market has a product, a business model and a market
The list of sources is in APA style, alphabetical, with working links
The group log says who did which section and which role
